THE FIRST LINES…

Let’s talk firsts….the first line of a book is supposed to draw you in, make you want to read…make you not want to put the book down…let’s take a look at my first lines…

DRIVEN: I sigh into the welcoming silence, grateful for the chance to escape—even if only momentarily—from the mindsuck of meaningless conversations on the other side of the door.

FUELED: Fucking dreams. Jumbled pieces of time that tumble through my subconscious. Rylee’s here. Filling them. Consuming them.

CRASHEDThwack. Thwack. Thwack.

RACEDWhat. The. Fuck?

UnRAVELED: I wish that I’d never looked up.

SLOW BURN: My sensations are dulled by the alcohol.

SWEET ACHE: “If you really want someone to manhandle your ass, I’m sure I could arrange for it to happen discreetly for you.”

HARD BEAT:  “Are you on a suicide mission, now?”

SECRET PROJECT:  Doctors say your heart can stop beating anywhere from four to six minutes – that’s two hundred forty to three hundred sixty seconds – before you die. They’re wrong.

10 YEAR GAP: ha. Nice try. I’m not sharing anything yet.

Which is your favorite first line of a book? I can’t wait to share many more of them with you…

  1. The first sentence of Driven, got to me, so many times I think the same thing! Real world, real people. And have re-read the driven series at least for times. And after reading slow burn going to read them all again 1 after the other, love reading series of books like that binge reading.

  2. OMG. I love them all but the one that links me is the thwack thwack thwack. It screams MORE.
    And I so want MORE.
    THANK YOU.
    You’re stories have been amazing.
    Can’t wait.

  3. My would have to crashed, because of getting to know colton was OK and not killed, I cried like a baby reading crashed!

  4. My favorite first line of yours is from Sweet Ache. A couple other favorites are “On a sunny Tuesday morning toward the end of March,a white-haired man walked into a cold room and told me I might die soon.” From The Summer Remains by Seth King and “My name is Olivia Kaspen, and if I love something I rip it from my life.” From The Opportunist by Tarryn Fisher.

  5. Love the Driven first line. Who am I kidding??? Your books have me sucked in from the beginning regardless. I'm so excited to see what's coming!!!
    Secret project is very interesting:)

  6. Fueled…but, Sweet Ache is pulling at my love for Colton. I didn’t think anyone could top Colton’s character, but Hawkin is coming pretty damn close. Your entire books draw me in, not just the first line!!

  7. What. The Fuck? had me from the go, but got to say I’m loving the secret project opening, already got me wondering whats coming next.Love your books, but I am thinking you need to write faster.(only joking). Thanks for great reads.

  8. Fueled FIRST! Love it in audio too. Read by Colton (aka Sean Crisdon) Driven of course owned me. Didnt put it down. Secret project already drew me in!!! #youhadmeatfirstword #ACEDiscomingACEDiscoming #coundowntohardbeat

  9. Love your opening line of Fueled. So evocative and visceral! And one of my recent favorites was from Free me from Laurelin Paige. "I wasn't supposed to be working the night I met J.C." Short and succinct, yet sucked me right in!
